Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® (AOBT) is a deep compression massage that is done in a push-pull pumping effect
on the client's muscles. By doing this, the massage offers relaxation as well as pain relief. AOBT is a type of massage
therapy in which the practitioner balances herself from parallel bars suspended from the ceiling and massages the patient
with her feet. While AOBT is one of the most recently created techniques practiced in America, it is quickly becoming a common
form of massage therapy.
Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® is not the same modality as Ashiatsu. While the origination of AOBT began with
the founder’s knowledge of Ashiatsu, the treatments are completely different. Developed by Ruthie Hardee in the 1990’s,
she was a traditional massage therapist. One night, when her hands were already aching, she thought she could offer no more
massages. When one of her clients arrived, she went ahead and gave the massage to the client. She did it using her feet while
holding onto a rafter above. AOBT was born. (www.deepfeet.com)
